Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya students mark Gandhi, Shastri Jayanti with plays and poetry

Jaipur: Students of Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya, Jaipur, marked Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri with a special assembly on October 2, using theatre and poetry to highlight the leaders’ values of truth, simplicity, courage, discipline and service.

The programme featured a play, “Swachhata Ki Seva – A Tribute to Bapu”, highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness and the importance of individual responsibility in building a clean and healthy society. Through the performance, students conveyed that cleanliness is not merely a habit but also a form of service to the nation.

This was followed by a Hindi skit, “Ek Nara, Ek Sankalp”, portraying the challenging period of 1965 and highlighting Lal Bahadur Shastri’s calm leadership and commitment to the nation. His iconic slogan, “Jai Kisan, Jai Jawan”, underlined the contribution of soldiers and farmers to the country.

The skit also portrayed Shastri’s appeal for restraint and food conservation during the national crisis.

Students further presented self-composed poems on the two leaders, reflecting on their values and relevance in contemporary times. The performances brought history and civic values into the school setting, making the assembly a meaningful tribute to the two leaders.
