MGD student secures All India rank 1, becomes Army lieutenant

Jaipur: A 22-year-old Vaishnavi Saxena has secured the All India first rank in the Services Selection Board (SSB) merit and has been commissioned as a lieutenant in the Indian Army after successfully completing a year-long training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA).

Vaishnavi, who studied at Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School (MGD), was also awarded the Commandant’s Certificate of Appreciation twice for her performance during training. Her achievement has brought recognition to Jaipur and highlighted the role of discipline, perseverance and determination in pursuing a career in the armed forces.

Her journey towards the Army began with a childhood ambition to serve the country. After completing her schooling at MGD, she pursued a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Rajasthan Technical University through RCERT, graduating with first-class honours. She also completed a graduation degree in Philosophy from IGNOU.

Vaishnavi was an active NCC cadet and a national-level shooting athlete. She represented the Rajasthan Directorate of NCC in shooting and has also received the NCC Best Cadet honour.

She credits her father, Manish Saxena, a noted environmentalist and wildlife expert and currently a member of the State Animal Welfare Board, for inspiring her to join the armed forces. Her mother, Namrata Saxena, works as a deputy director in a World Organisation.

The family’s association with military service is also reflected in Vaishnavi’s brother, Chaitanya M Saxena, who is preparing to join the armed forces. The siblings share the ambition of serving the country in uniform.

MGD Girls’ School director Archana S Mankotia, Deepshikha Group of Colleges vice-chairman Dr Anshu Surana and RCERT principal Dr Pramod Sharma congratulated Vaishnavi on her achievement.
